HIKING

MAINE holds in her bosom not only the mother of all trails but some pretty interesting day hikes that see very few soles. Of course the Appalachian Trail is the feature story here in Maine, and for good reason. But there are many other shorter hikes that equal the AT’s remote wilderness stature. If you are looking for lodging near some of these sights you have arrived.

HENDERSON CAMP is located next to some public preserve lands that are laces with a very respectable trail system with days of exploring to be had. These trails connect five pristine remote ponds. There are some overlooks that face Maine’s monster Mount Katahdin with dozens of hidden ponds and lakes glistening in the background. It is a great spot for a casual remote vacation with a focus on hiking.
